The Mediterranean is far from the biological desert it is often assumed to be: fin whales, sperm whales, pilot whales, bottlenose and striped dolphins are all resident. The Pelagos Sanctuary, between Liguria, Corsica and the French Riviera, concentrates most of the watching trips. The Strait of Gibraltar adds orcas, present in spring and summer along the tuna migration route.
