Whales and Dolphins in the Mediterranean: Map of Watching Spots
Eight cetacean species live in the Mediterranean year round. This map places every watching spot, from the Pelagos Sanctuary to the Strait of Gibraltar, with its season.
10 spotsThe Mediterranean is far from the biological desert it is often assumed to be: fin whales, sperm whales, pilot whales, bottlenose and striped dolphins are all resident. The Pelagos Sanctuary, between Liguria, Corsica and the French Riviera, concentrates most of the watching trips. The Strait of Gibraltar adds orcas, present in spring and summer along the tuna migration route.
